I'm planning to visit Sendai this week for Tanabata. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some nice places to visit while I am there. Thank you for your help!
During Tanabata festival, ofcouse things you should not miss is the festival. Then you can take a train to Matsushima, one of the top-3 most beautiful islands in Japan (30 mins by train from Sendai city).
If you like traditioinal Japanese temple, don't miss Yamatera, situated in the border between Miyagi and Yamagata (45 min by train), dozen of temple on the top of mountain and beautiful scenery.
If you like something nature, take a trip to Zao. This place is popular during winter, but during summer, the weather is very nice !
Kyuutan, (cow's tongue) is the traditional food in Sendai, you should not miss this.
There are a lot of good Onsen in Sendai, so please enjoy it. There are a city bus loop, where you can drop and visit famous places in the city. It cost around 400 Yen only !
