A bus hit a 5-ton elephant that escaped from the circus this morning near Mexico City, according to the Los Angeles Times. The animal and the driver reportedly died in the crash. Six others were injured, the Times says.

Police at the scene said the bus driver stood no chance of missing the elephant.
The elephant and bus driver both died and several of the passengers on the bus were hurt.
An animal keeper at the circus said he untied the elephant to feed her and she ran away. He said the elephant had never done anything like it before.
