(KPL) Lao people will have a good opportunity to journey with Boeing or Airbus plane to fly cross continent where they want after Lao Aviation Company had a purchasing plan. So far, Laos has not yet had any flight flying directly from Laos to each continent, the most of its flight is available to serve only amongst neighbouring countries and ASEAN nations. The latest news was disclosed that the Lao government has ambitiously planned to purchase new planes to replace ATR and MA 60 planes. Because these planes can fly only short distance and cannot fly over continent. Mr Vixay Bouavanh, Director of Flight Operation and Training Department disclosed that there are currently more than 6 planes including ATR planes made in France and MA 60 planes made in China have been serving effectively among neighbouring countries. �Our plan expects to be achieved by 2010, we may purchase Boeing or Airbus planes to be available for providing different destination to customers in the future,� he said. The purchasing budget might come from the Lao government however Laos faces shortage of pilots to drive the planes. To cope with this matter, presently, the Lao Airlines awarded scholarships to Lao students to study in China, Thailand, Vietnam and Sweden. Laos needs to look for more than 30 pilots and 50 airhostesses are eligible to many positions if the plan becomes true, according to Mr Vixay.

KPL newspaper is not private newspaper, the news could not say without report from the Lao government. that means Lao have plan to do with it. don't say just guessing without any confirm.

even it just a plan and maybe Lao is the poor country in your eyes and it's impossible for the Lao Country to buy it on your idea , but have any meaning to blame on it? is the plan hurt any body? before human can made an airplan, one billion people was laugh and said it was stupid an idea and impossible to made it. maybe it will take time to buy and make this plane be come trues, but anything wrong with having a big dream and try hard to make our dream come trues?i don't think is impossible for the dream of buying things.

where the source of money? we can give this bussiness to foreigner to deal with it. isn't?
Lao International Airport might not be big enough to back up or support the big plane to land but this only one way and i think that Laos should built new Airport and big enough to support the big plane or international other Airlines planes to land on Lao ground that will be expand Lao Airlines to the modern int. world.I think Wattay Airport right now is too little too small to accept guests or visitors because the number of visitors who come visiting Laos are increased every days meaning every years so the Airport must be very wide or maybe wild for the jet planes to land and to take off.But!!Funding???He!He!he!Investment!!??Just lend the investment from other rich countries which really want to help Lao out.Right?????Or maybe Lao neighbours which really want to promote or support us at least not too fast to send back the funding which lend from them and not really much interests.I think that it will be alright even Thai Suvarnabhumi Airport as i've heard there were some fundings with Japan Funding or Japan Bank at 70% if i haven't made mistake!! you can give your idea that the way you want, i just feel bit upset with your idea is espress as you are looking down on our country just because we poor and for buying air-plain is impossible for our country, that was i feel from your sentence. bytheway, i heard that the new airport will built also, but don't confirm yet. will take long way and long time, but its not impossible.

How did you know the Wattay Airport could not landing by Boeing, may be you are right HAhahaaaa....but for me it could landing by Boeing 737,...., 747 Jumbo Jet. I have confirmed. Did you know the first 747 Jumbo Jet was landing at Wattay Airport was whose? It's was The plane of Japan's prime minister during time of ASEAN summit when Laos was the host in few years ago.

Confirm again Wattay airport runway length 10,499 ft or 3,200 m the Boeing 747 need for take of is 5,000 ft and for landing sure must be more than take of length about 10,000 ft so means that Wattay airport there is extra length 499 ft or 152 m, but I think Laos don't need Boeing 747 within 10 years for abroad line the other type that small than Boeing 747 will be fine.

I like and love air plane, I know Wattay airport from old airport with old ATC tower till new airport and ATC tower I have chance to touch it than so easy to get information, right!!! PS: ATC- Air Traffic Control

After searching for awhile I got information that our Wattay Airport runway length is around 10499 ft or about 3200 meters (here is the source but not really confirmed: http://www.world-airport-codes.com/laos/wattay-7419.html). Then I check for requirement lenght of runway for Boeing 747 (the largest passenger aircraft) runnway requirement, which it will need about 7299ft to 11,000 feet for runway and depend on weight on takeoff weight too (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080116161000AAF69st). So basically, at least Boeing 747 can land at Wattay Airport, but may need abit of skill pilot (this is my opion).
So instead of throwing questions to each other, I think we can help each other find information and help other to understand better.
However, if my information would not sastisfy some readers, I really cannot help more than this. Anyway, any search engine will get us some information, so use it wisely.
