(KPL) The Singapore government has awarded the 2009 ASEAN Secondary Three Scholarship to two Lao students, Miss Malisa Khammanichanh and Mr Phouthada Sitthinonthong. Both are due to leave for the Republic of Singapore on Thursday for their four-year study in top secondary schools and junior colleges in Singapore. The ASEAN scholarship aims to provide opportunities for the young people of ASEAN member countries to develop their potentials and equip them with the skills that will enable them to step confidently into the new millennium. Fifteen students have been awarded the scholarship since the past nine years. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, return airfares and an annual living allowance. The Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Laos Mr Jeyaraj Benjamin William hosted a farewell tea for the Lao scholars and their families on 6 October.
